SA: Brown says hospitals could get extra funds

South Australia's Human Services Minister DEAN BROWN says Australian hospitals could get an
extra $180 million in health funding if the federal government accepts Bureau of Statistics
figures on hospital costs.

In recent talks the states and the federal government could not agree on how much hospital
costs had increased.

The Bureau has put the figure at 3.2 per cent, but because it did not agree the
commonwealth decided to pay the states the default index of just 0.5 per cent.

Mr BROWN says he wants the federal government to accept the Bureau figures.

He says this would release an extra $180 million for Australian hospitals with SA's share
put at $15 million.
