New York City is headed for a drought that might have consequences as far north as the Adirondack foothills, state officials said Wednesday.
Months of dry weather have depleted water supplies throughout the state, but the shortage is acute in New York City, which draws water from four large reservoirs in the Catskills. The city's water supplies are about 40 percent below normal.
Gov. Mario M. Cuomo is expected to declare a drought emergency in the city within a week, according to Thomas Jorling, state environmental conservation commissioner. That gives local goverments the power to set up drought emergency plans, …
