DARWIN, April 10 AAP - An extensive search is under way for a man missing in a crocodile-infested
Northern Territory river.

Police said the 20-year-old man was last seen swimming across the Daly River near the
Daly River community, 220km southwest of Darwin, early on Friday.

He was swimming with another man when he went underwater and did not resurface.

Police were alerted about 2am (CST) and a search was begun for the missing man.

"Police have been alerted to a possible crocodile sighting and are treating the incident
as a possible crocodile attack," the force said in a statement.

"The Territory Response Section has cordoned off that part of the river and is coordinating
the search.

"Members of the public are urged to avoid the area for safety reasons."
